“I was slated to go to an important arms show in Qatar. I was pregnant with twins. The realization of what I was actively involved with became intensely clear.”

By conceptually juxtaposing the tartan, a proud western symbol associated with a history of clan warfare, with the current events in Iraq, the Battle Cry Series of paintings became the physical manifestation of my attempt to understand sectarian violence and what I was actively enabling while working within the US defense industry.

Each small brush stroke within the painting, where it looks like a stitch, is dedicated to an unknown person who has died while warring. I actually say "thank you for your sacrifice" with each dab. The work is tedious, but I feel it is the least I can do to atone and pay tribute to these individuals.

10% of the proceeds from The Battle Cry Series will benefit PARALYZED VETERANS OF AMERICA. For more information about the organization, please visit their website at www.pva.org.
